Children's Day

They were a hundred school kids from Salvador to hurry on the pontoons on Thursday morning. A "mini-discovery" day had been organized. Kids (future sailors?) could further realize the difficulty in crossing the Atlantic on these small boats of 6.50 m. They were joyful, while discovering the problems endured by the skippers over the 4,200 miles.

Bahia's stone trophies

For the fifth time, that is to say since the first edition of The Charente-Maritime/Bahia Transat 6.50 and its arrival in Brazil in 2001, ten trophies award the top three in each class,  as well as Izabel Pimentel the only Brazilian to have raced and finished the race and the three other women involved. They were created by the goldsmith and jeweler Lasbonfim. Maibaum with ups and downs @ Denis van den Brink / GPO

Maibaum with ups and downs

As the horn sounded Maibaum (Coconut Run) stood up, removed the cloth he was using as his cap and shook two fists very high. He had just finished with his The Charente-Maritime/Bahia Transat 6,50. Whatever his rank (43rd), the German came to live a long and beautiful adventure, without any ambition, except from finishing. "I had moments of high followed by low. It's very, very long. Sometimes I wondered what I was doing here. And the next day, I was happy to be there. "

Will he return for a second experience? It does not say no with certainty but: "Not in 2011. Imust forget the painful moments. "
